This is wine country and the soil reflects it. The Suisun Valley AVA sits directly to the east of Green Valley, and the vineyards along Mankas Corner, Abernathy Road, and the Wooden Valley area are part of the daily backdrop. Late summer and harvest weeks the air carries fine vineyard dust on the afternoon thermals, and the open hills on the west side of the valley contribute their own grass-seed and grit pattern through the dry months.

The problem in detail
Vineyard and field dust is the slow problem. From late July through October the soil dust off the working vineyards and the grass-seed off the open hills drifts on the afternoon wind. With windows or back sliders open it settles into the carpet and onto upholstery. The particles are fine enough that a household vacuum lifts only the surface portion. Over a year the carpet looks slightly dimmer and the homeowner attributes it to fading.
The second problem is the country-road grit. Green Valley Road and the connecting rural roads carry a different soil profile than a paved suburban street. Cracked asphalt, road-edge gravel, and occasional ag-vehicle traffic kick up a coarser grit that gets tracked in on shoes and tires. The first 8 to 10 feet of carpet inside the front door and the garage entry carry the brunt of it.
Third is the larger-lot factor. A typical Green Valley home is on a bigger parcel than a tract-home equivalent. More yard means more outdoor time for the family and the dog, more time on bare feet in the warmer months, and more landscape grit and pollen tracked back inside. How we handle it
For vineyard and field dust we recommend an annual clean in October or November, right after the harvest dust has settled but before the winter rains. The pre-spray we use breaks the binding between fine soil and the carpet fiber, and a hot-water extraction lifts the bulk of it on the first pass. For households with chronic exposure on the upwind side of the home we will add a second pass on the rooms facing the valley.
For country-road grit at the entries we treat the high-traffic lanes separately. Pre-spray, counter-rotating brush, hot extraction, plus an air-mover pass to keep the dry-down inside the standard window. For larger homes we usually run a 2 to 4 hour appointment. We are 10 minutes from most Green Valley addresses, so if any room does not hit the dry-down standard we will come back the next day at no charge to add equipment.
